Alright, I caved. I bought the hour of wireless here in Frankfurt. But its 8 am and no ones here and nothing's open. The following is a series of notes from my travels so far....
1. Departure-Thank you Sarah for driving me to the airport. It felt like much more of a proper send-off than having both mom and dad at work and a cab taking me to the airport. I will make a call to our eagle-friend whence I arrive, perhaps you will hear the call?
2. O'hare- Really Dad?? THREE hours early?? At nooon? On a Wednesday?? I got through security in 5 minutes. They didn't give a shit about where I was going.
3. The flight- Nobody sitting next to me, aisle seat in the front section of economy class. Close enough to the bathroom but far enough that nobody bothered me. Watched 4 (yes FOUR) movies- Alice in Wonderland, How to Train Your Dragon, Young Victoria, and Clash of the Titans. Decided that all European airlines are the same except for the color of the seats.
4. Strangers- The woman in the window seat of my row is an Egyptian woman named Maha who works for Solo Cups in the states. I thanked her for making beer pong possible. She also told me right off the bat that she'd make sure I get my ride when we get to Egypt. We are now airport buddies. Also, while sitting and waiting at O'hare, sat next to an Eritrean couple who came to the states to buy a wedding dress.
5. Frankfurt- A) REAL dishes at mcdonalds?? Weird. B) Irish girls discussing whether Asian children had eyelashes. C) This airport is SO big that the workers ride bikes to get around. D) Got WAY ripped off when 5 pieces of gum and a bottle of water cost 4.50euros/$6.... alas.
6. Smelling- I don't yet! I brought an extra pair of underwear and an extra tshirt in my carry-on just in case, but I am making the brave decision to not change. I still have another hour here though, so I may cave yet again.
I belieeeeeve thats all for now. Know that I am safe and sound, and if you are my parents or sister I will text you when I get to Egypt. Jenny should be meeting me at the airport and I have her number and my phone works with the international plan. BYE i said BYE.
I made airport buddies with the woman next to me on my last flight home from Israel! She told me her life story, and how she reunited with her hs sweetheart in Israel after he moved there and she moved to the States from Russia 30 years ago.
ReplyDeleteThey are both divorced with kids and are now making it work.... super cute... She acted like my mom and made sure i got through everything!
I love airport buddies... it is sad that I will probably never see her again.
